Beauty Blender vs Real Techniques Miracle Sponge

Invest or Save?!?

When the Beauty Blender entered the big bad world of makeup, everyone went crazy. Shortly after, the Miracle Sponge by Real Techniques was introduced and then came all the other sponges (branded and non). Basically, the aim was to see what the hype of applying foundation with a sponge was all about.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
The Miracle Sponge was off to a good start. I had to buy it right away for two reasons, one, I have the RT brushes and absolutely love them and second, it cost way less than half the price of the beauty blender. It felt great paying way less for a sponge applicator that was bigger in size than the beauty blender. The shape of the sponge is similar to the beauty blender except it has a flat edge, not only for the tough-to-reach spots but also for contouring around the nose. It applies concealer and foundation evenly all over. All the right boxes are being checked, but is the product really worth buying? Keep reading to find out.

The Beauty Blender
Initially, I was a bit hesitant to buy it. My first reaction was “I’ll put in a few more dollars and get myself a brush instead”. After using the Miracle Sponge was a month, I ended up buying it. It’s easy to clean, easy to use and I just can’t do without it anymore. Pretty much, all the reasons mentioned above except for the slight difference in shape. You will find out why.

Both sponges after two washes

The difference is quite visible to you guys. I couldn’t clean it any more than this because it would start to crumble when massaging the soap onto it. These blenders are supposed to last for a few months, but the RT sponge didn’t even last a month.

In my opinion, yes, the beauty blender is on the pricey side but it will surely last longer. Although, I can buy 3 RT Miracle Sponges instead of one Beauty Blender, but is it worth running to the makeup store every month to buy a new one. With time, I’d end up spending more if I stick to RT. Now, having said this, I’m not bashing the overall “Real Techniques” brand, it’s only their sponge. The brushes are total kick-ass and worth buying.
