Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque | Abu Dhabi

I simply cannot believe that, I have been back in Dubai for 4 years now, and I have never been to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Until recently, and that too, my brother and his wife (the newlyweds) and the family were invited over for lunch to a family friend’s in AUH, so we decided to kill two birds with one stone.

Driving towards the mosque and getting glimpses of it through the trees and buildings gives away such a peaceful feeling. To get inside, you have to go to the security detectors. We cannot blame them, can we? As I walked inside, a sense of stillness and serenity creeped inside of me. A feeling I always look for during my daily grind. There were so many people inside, yet silence was maintained. We got there right before Asr prayer, so we decided to pray first and then walk around. The area to do the ablution was huge, and with so many women present, we didn’t have to wait around for our turn. We did our Wud’hu (ablution) and headed for the praying area for ladies.

After praying, we walked around. The gold chandeliers in every room were lavish and just beautiful. One room had the 99 names of Allah written in simple, yet beautiful, calligraphy on the wall. Every room was more breathtaking than the last one. I just did not want to leave. The amount of people of all religions that visit this place is simply impressive. Getting to visit this peaceful place with my family was a priceless experience. It makes you be more thankful for what you have, and I left the mosque feeling very thankful for everything I have.

One small drawback of this place is the area where people keep their shoes. Because so many people come in one go, the shoe racks had a really bad odor. They should really keep air fresheners in that area.

If you have been to this mosque (I’m sure you have, what am I thinking), please let me know how your experience was in the comments below.
